"The use of communications and information technology to deliver health services and exchange health information when distance separates the participants."(Elford, 1998)
Faster access to patient information has been a driving force to improve the quality of patient care, particularly in remote and rural locations. Transfer of electronic medical data uses a variety of telecommunication technologies. Whether a clinician is accessing patient records remotely, or high-resolution images are transferred and viewed, or a video conferencing consultation is conducted, a method of use and a method of un interruptible transfer must be established.
M & R's Healthcare team works with clients with a range of telemedicine options. Our engineers implement secured network infrastructures for various methods of transmissions, and design method of transmission, retrieval and storage.
Telemedicine Options:
- Teleradiology: sending and viewing x-rays, CT scans, or MRIs
- Telepathology: sending and viewing digital images, microscopic viewing: dermatology, pathology, etc.
- Telehealth: video conferencing for consultations, home health, distant education, etc.
Our Healthcare team of expert's works with Healthcare clients to assess, design and implement various methods of telemedicine.
Methodology:
- Establish the type of telemedicine and the users: e.g. rural location remote radiology diagnosis, home health, remote access for doctors, dermatology, and psychiatric evaluation for rural jails, etc.
- Assess the bandwidth needs and choose the best method of telecommunications link that are available in the area
- Assess current technology and make recommendations: e.g. workstations, peripherals, and other related hardware and software
- Work with the IT staff to implement policies, protocols and security methods
- Help research and offer grant writing assistance as needed
- Recommend and implement the end-to-end solution
- Support and maintain as needed
